We distribute power to the city of Maricopa, the town of Stanfield as well as the agricultural community in the surrounding area. Electric Utility Maintenance Technician

Title: Electric Utility Maintenance Technician
Department: Engineering & Operations
Reporting Relationship: Position will report to the General Foreman

Job Summary

The Electric Utility Maintenance Technician will be enrolled in a structured learning program where they will learn new skills associated with electrical power distribution systems maintenance. Under the direction of the General Foreman, an Electric Utility Maintenance Technician performs general maintenance tasks on company equipment as described below. Electric Utility Maintenance Technicians will not work directly on power lines or any other medium- or high-voltage equipment, nor will they work on energized equipment at any time.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

Level 1:

  • Perform duties as assigned by field supervisors.

Level 2:

  • Obtain a Class A CDL in the State of Arizona.
  • Qualify as a Qualified Electrical Worker, as defined by OSHA.
  • Qualify as an Equipment Operator (Forklift, Gannon, light tractors, etc.

Level 3:

  • Pull secondary services.
  • Patrol power distribution lines to help Line Crews identify system faults.
  • Obtain certification as a Traffic Control Flagger, as required by the State of Arizona.

Level 4:

  • Changeout street lights as needed.
  • Trim trees, bushes, and other growth to keep it away from the distribution lines.

Level 5:

  • Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, graders, diggers, bucket trucks, etc.

Level 6:

  • Perform thermal surveys of field equipment.
  • Qualify as a Certified Groundman:
  • Identify all commonly used line equipment, tools, and materials.
  • Keep line truck stocked with proper equipment needed for each project or assignment.
  • Provide maintenance and operational support to the Line Crews as directed.

Level 7:

  • Qualify as a Confined Space Monitor.
  • Qualify as a Switching Operator and participate in system switching operations.

 

Essential Qualifications

• Able to understand verbal and written instructions.
• Move objects (i.e., connectors, switches, etc.) weighing up to 100 pounds, using a cart or other aide to assist.
• Work from elevated heights

Special Requirements

• Distinguish colors to identify color-coded electrical circuits and equipment.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, co-workers, and the general public.
• Possess knowledge and skill in the use of construction tools, and their use.
• Able to develop situational awareness.
• Must be physically capable of climbing poles and towers.
• Must have a current Arizona Driver’s License upon hire and a CDL Class A within 90 days of hire.
• Must live within the ED3 service area or relocate within 6 months of start date.

Physical Requirements

• Must successfully pass pre-employment drug test and background check.
• Must successfully pass a pre-employment physical and back X-Ray exam.
• Must be able sit or stand for long periods of time.

Education & Experience

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience with heavy equipment operations, trenching for installing underground pipe or conduit; pulling wire; or electrical utility construction a plus.

Work Environment

• Various work sites.
• Field work in outdoor environment.
• May work in small, cramped spaces; on or near high-voltage energized lines and equipment.
