Electrical District No. 3 of Pinal County (“ED3” or “District”) is a political subdivision of the State of Arizona formed in 1926 as a Special District by the Pinal County Board of Supervisors. ED3 is a cost-based (not-for-profit) utility with a seven (7) member Board of Directors and its purpose is to: a) provide affordable irrigation pumping to agricultural customers and b) to provide power at the lowest possible cost within sound business principles. ED3 is committed to providing quality service, competitive power rates, sound business practices and a safe distribution system to the communities we serve.
With the tremendous growth in the Maricopa community that has occurred in the last 20 years, ED3 strongly believes in supporting and educating the lives of students who need financial aid along with supporting tomorrows in-demand workforce. Chosen individual(s) will be awarded one non-renewable scholarship in the amount of $1,500 which can be only used for tuition and related fees. The award will be paid directly to the educational institution.
Who's Eligible?
To be eligible, the applicant must be:
- A graduating senior from a local high school that lives within the ED3 service territory.
- A full-time student pursuing a bachelor’s degree at an accredited college or university for the upcoming semester (minimum 12 credit hours).
- Have a minimum overall GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale.
- Students pursuing a major in an agriculture, electrical engineering, water resources or similar STEM field.
- Awards are made based on the field of study, academic excellence, and overall achievement. All decisions of the scholarship committee are final.
In Addition:
Students who are awarded the scholarship must be comfortable being pictured and being announced in local media outlets including ED3 newsletters/website./social media. Students may be expected to attend a formal interview with the scholarship committee.
How to Apply
In order to apply for this scholarship, you will need to have all requirements met in the above section “Who’s Eligible.” Candidates must submit the following documents as part of the application packet:
1) A completed Electrical District No. 3 scholarship application.
2) A one-page letter addressed to the Scholarship Committee explaining reasons for selecting the STEM field study, and why the student believes he/she should be selected.
3) A current resume or narrative summary of schools attended, employment, community and volunteer activities, school clubs/sports, other extracurricular activities, and awards received.
4) Most recent official transcripts indicating cumulative GPA.
5) One (1) letter of recommendation that explores academic achievements, contributions to school or community, and the applicant’s character and initiative. Best letters will come from the applicant’s instructors, school counselor, coaches, employers, and/or similar references. More than one letter of recommendation will be accepted.
6) A portrait for media publications.

What is the scholarship deadline?
Must be received by Friday, March 28, 2025. Awards will be announced in the month of April 2025.

How are Funds Administered?
1) The recipient must submit the address of the college or university financial aid office to Electrical District No. 3 after the recipient has been notified of receiving the reward.
2) A check for the full amount of the award is mailed to the school’s financial aid office to be credited to the recipient’s account.
The recipients will be informed about the award recognition during the month of April 2025.
